People had been asking me to blog but seriously, I am feeling a writer’s un-itch. It’s the nemesis of a writer, the blankness that you feel when nothing comes out and all the words seemed wrong. It’s easy to put across a series of alphabets but it can be done almost emotionlessly with the finesse of a polished writer. But the feeler in me refused to do that. I guess that’s the way God made me. I must feel the writing.
Writing has been such a big part of my life. I scribbled and daydreamed of plots and scripts in my head in class when I was a student (opps) and I love buying notebooks and journals to satisfy my fetish. With all the blogs nowadays, it makes writing simpler, convenient and I wonder why teachers are complaining that their students don’t write. Just look at all the blogs!
Anyway, back to the topic of blogging, someone asked me why people blog. We are so scared that people will stumble on our blogs and find out about our hidden feelings and yet we publish it on the world wide web. Is it an irony?
Well…I blog. And I can understand why I do so. I blog because it’s an outlet for me to express and I blog because I want to share how I feel. It’s really as simple as that. And why is blogging so popular? Well…I believe that we all have a need to be known for who we are and we have a need to be heard.
Think about it. As a baby, the first thing we do is to cry. We cry because we have a need and we cry because we want to be heard so that our need will be satisfied. That’s the most primitive, basic, straightforward part of our lives. As we grow older, we put on facades, fake personas, adopt an image and we stop being ourselves and start presenting ourselves as we want it. Some of us even hide our true selves to be someone that we are not. But, in moments of aloneness and when we face the mirror, we know who we really are. And in blogs, this need for attention comes out strongly.
Of course, to under gird all the above, some people do use blogs to present yet another façade or even use it as a tool to criticize. I’m not saying that you cannot be honest in your blog but remember that whatever you say will be permanently etched on people’s minds. And sometimes, the beauty in writing or living lies in what remains unspoken.
I always have this belief. The most talented person in the world is God. Really. So I’ve always thought that God is the most talented writer. Just look at how He chose to communicate. Through the Bible. In fact, God is the most avid blogger. He even published His journal on the world wide web and in different languages. And I believe that God in all His almighty ways had a need too. A need to be known by us and through His word, He is crying out for our attention.
Like Mary in the secret garden, let’s walk through the weeds, pry open the stubble, rub away the clingy moss and reached out for a door that has never been latched. The secret journal is no longer secret and the best writer is waiting to share His thoughts for you.
