SHOUT BOX!

Thursday, April 19, 2007

Yesterday, i switched on the computer at work and signed into msn as usual. My eyes however caught something a little more unusual.

The headline read something like "33 killed in school shoot out". The worst school shoot out ever in American history had just taken place yesterday.

A young man went into a campus area and without warning shot and killed 32 other people and finally turned the gun upon himself. Just like that. 33 lives snuffed out without warning. And just like that heaps and piles of questions thrown into the air. Families of those who were killed are grieving for their huge loss. Many who died were students. Young, full of life, full of ambition. They could've been the leaders of tomorrow, but yet, in one moment, all that was gone with the squeezing of a trigger.

I guess more than anything guys, this really reminds me that life is so fleeting. Non of those who died knew that they were going to die that morning. Just imagine, you wake up, your last words to your mom before leaving the car may even just be a grunt. Like how parents love to tell you to have a good day and that they love you, and you just say "yeah yeah yeah." and slip out of the car quickly. And you head to class and sit beside the person whom you've always sat next to. And all of a sudden you hear screams and all of sudden before you can react, you see someone pointing something and you, and then suddenly...

How fleeting life is. The bible says that our lives are but a breath. How fleeting that is. How quickly and within the blink of an eye, so many things could happen.
More than anything friends, may we learn to treasure out lives, and the relationships around us.
More than anything may we begin to sense the urgency of the hour and tell our friends of a hope that is alive in our hearts. About a God who hears them when they cry themselves to sleep.
May we open our eyes to see, that there are people who are hurting all around us, and sometimes, we need to take the first step to reach out our hand.
