What comes to your mind when you see the word, “stamina”?

“Stamina” – the ability to complete a race?

I discovered a new definition for the word, “stamina”. Recently, to me, “stamina” is defined as “the ability to study continuously in the library from 9am to 10pm”!

Wait – before you gasp and think that Sis Yin Ting is a psychotic mugger, let me clarify that I am indeed not one. Some of us, like Sis Kimberly, Bro Aaron, Sis Joanne and myself, we are having our university exams real soon (yes, while you are enjoying yourselves, we are having exams. Boo…). That’s why my university classmates and I have decided to camp at the library, be the first to enter, last to leave.

However, what God impressed upon my heart is neither the athlete’s stamina nor the mugger’s stamina, but the Mighty Warrior’s stamina.

Do you know what is “spiritual stamina”? Serving your generation and doing God’s work – do you know that we need an extraordinary “stamina”?

The media often deems us, the youths of this generation, as the “hedonistic generation that glorifies instant gratification”, meaning we are generalized to be pleasure-seeking, and tend to quit halfway when they encounter challenges. Well, I am not sure whether this is true, but I am certain that this DOESN’T apply to IGNYTE warriors!

A well known verse from the bible:

“But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3: 13-14

Paul tells us not to give up, not to be distracted and continue striving towards the destination. I have the privilege this year to be learning from a senior leader. I always salute and admire how he manages to stay steadfast in God, holding on to his faith and his ministry for so many years despite the ups and downs. I learnt that his staying power and “stamina” comes from pressing on and fixing his eyes not on man or circumstances, not on success or failures, but on God, and God alone. This is real “spiritual stamina”!

Remember what Ps Gary always said about IGNYTE Mighty Warriors? As we prepare our hearts for camp and the new year, let’s have in us the “stamina” of a Mighty Warrior!

He trains my hands for battle;
my arms can bend a bow of bronze.
You give me your shield of victory,
and your right hand sustains me;
you stoop down to make me great.

Psalm 18: 34-35
