Friends… they are wonderful… like a gift from God… very precious…

It is something that is so important to all of us but many times we failed to acknowledge and appreciate them.

When was the last time you went up to a friend to tell him/her: “Hey, I appreciate you.”?

Think about it:

When we are bored,
And would like to have a good game of basketball or soccer (Or any other sports), who do we go to?

When it seems that we have fallen in love with someone,
Who do we share our excitement and anxiety with?

When we feel lonely,
And would like to talk to someone on the phone, who do we call?

When we achieve success,
Who do we share our success stories with?

When we are frustrated about certain things,
Who do we look for to ‘download’ our frustration?

More often than not, we look for our friends isn’t it?

This is a reminder to appreciate all our friends, all those who chose to stay by our sides even when the going gets tough, all those who despite our imperfection, still accepts us, all those who genuinely cared, loved, laughed, shared, gave and sacrificed…A big ‘THANK YOU’ to all of you…

Just last Saturday, IGNYTE Ministry gathered at SPE for ‘SPOT ON’.

I believe it was more than an event or an activity; rather, it was more like ‘a gathering of friends’…

The smiles and laughers, the teamwork and unity, the shouts of triumphant, they were all genuine. Just watching the different group playing and completing in the various games brought joy to my heart.

To all those of you who played your hearts out at ‘SPOT ON’ last Saturday, well done~! I’m so proud of every one of you who played because what I saw was determination, integrity, fighting spirit and unity.

And of course, regardless whether you went away with vouchers from World of Sports or Island Creamery, at the end of the day, every single one of you is a winner – you have won a greater rapport, a greater friendship, a greater connection with your friends.

Finally, I just want to take this chance to appreciate my greatest friend, one that I have known for as long as 10 years of my life – my Lord Jesus Christ… Thank you Jesus… You are indeed my greatest friend…

Have you ever experience times when you forgot to charge your hand phone and just go out? The next thing you know is, you hear a warning signal that tells you the handphone batt is running out fast and knocked out pretty soon! And what happens when your hand phone batt goes flat out? Obviously you can’t message or call the person and immediately you are cut away from hundreds of people connected to you. All of sudden, you feel a part of you just went missing. You begin to feel disconnected with the world and wonder what if someone important decided to give you a call and that you will miss the important piece of information?

Many of Christians today falls in this category! They get charged in church services but once they get out of the church, their battery starts draining out. Probably come Tuesday, they come to a spiritual low batt and next thing they go to a knock out mode where there is no connection with the living Savior who loves to communicate to them everyday! Many disciples live a powerless life today because they have failed to understand the true meaning of having a relationship with Jesus Christ. We always think that our spiritual batt will never go out and it will somehow stay there. But there’s a wrong mentality which needs to be corrected. IGNYTE warriors, if you want to be a mighty warrior, living a victorious life then you need to cultivate a relationship with God.

So how can we get our spiritual handphone charge daily?

Psalms 55:2 says Cast your cares on the Lord and He will sustain you: he will never let the righteous fall. Before I continue, can you speak with deep conviction, say, “I am righteous!” That’s good! The bible tells us that we are called to be righteous. That means you are a person of strong values, living in the power of the Holy Spirit.

In this world we are living, we have many distractions, worries that we need to place before God. The Key is to CAST means throw off, give away. When you learn how to cast your cares on the Lord everyday, the Holy Spirit will impress upon you how to deal with the situations, giving you confidence that God is with you. Each time you depend on the Holy Spirit, you will begin to see prayers answered coming your way. That builds faith and understanding who God is in your life! You got to try it and remember to constantly pray in the Spirit, pray with an understanding that God will sustain and renew you in the Spirit.

Remember, charge your phone regularly!

"Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever." Psalm 23:6

I was writing some cards just now.. for sis and her bf, as well as mum's birthday card.. :)
Interestingly, God just led me to Ps 23; v6 and 1-2 respectively for them..

It sort of reminds me of a sermon by P Dennis back in feb.. He shared some powerful truths using just v6 itself.. It really comforts me to know that God is actively pursuing after me with His love and goodness.. meaning that in all situations, yeah.. All~ even the tough times.. i know He is pursuing me with His unfailing love.

Well, know what? the word surely means it's affirmative, no doubt about it..
While love (mercy) speaks of a covenantal love of God.. Unfailing~
And in the verse, the word follow is actually talking about a pursue.. meaning it's active!

One thing that really spurs me is that, King David did not wrote this psalm when everything was going on fine for him. Instead, he wrote it during the period of time when he was attacked by his enemies and facing deaths. . Yet he can proclaim of God's love and goodness despite his circumstances.. I also want to be like him, to be able to proclaim of God's goodness and love always, despite all the things that i'm facing.. :)

Cool right? I always think that this verse simply speak of God's goodness n that's it.. but when i heard the sermon.. i realised that, beyond the surface.. it's really a powerful truth to embrace.
To embrace the fact that, God is the same at all times and He will never fail to love us, bless us as we dwell in Him. Oh ya.. not forgetting to add.. the word dwell means return again.

I think this week as we had heard of what P Gary shared in the service; that we are to be consumed by His passion and be committed to the end.. let us be living a life like King David, one that recognised that we served and love a God that never fails to love us and actively pursue us with His goodness. It will cause us to make room for Jesus each day n not coming up with all the different excuses..

Amen to that? :p

Last but not least, i pray that as we continue to walk in this journey of faith, many more will come to know God thru our lives that speaks of His goodness and love.

I remembered in my army days in my vocation as a scout.

Basically a scout in the army goes behind the enemy lines to survey the enemy’s firepower and then feedback to the HQ for information. Many times, in order to get to the destination, my team has to open up the map and then use the compass to decide the best route to go to in order to reach that place. I have to confess that there are many instances where we got lost and not sure how to go back to the original route that we planned.

Sometimes, we can be like that. We have the spiritual Map in front of us but sometimes in order to get the destination, we made choices that cost us to lose our focus on God and as a result, we can get really lost in our relationship with God.

Maybe you are feeling lost in your relationship with God. You are not sure what to do with your situation. Somehow the love for God just doesn’t seem to be as passionate as before.

IGNYTE warrriors, never worry when you feel that way because that’s the best time where God can come in and intervene in your life! The bible says, Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. I want you to know no matter where you are right now with God, He will point you back to the cross! Why? It is because through the cross, we can find victory and hope. Through the cross, we know our Savior is not dead but very much alive to direct our paths so that we can be the best Christians we can be.

Proverbs 3:5 says that when we acknowledge God and not lean on our own understanding, he will direct our paths.

A jungle survivor expert will tell you that if you get lost in the wilderness, your best chance of surviving is to get close to the river bank and follow it as close as possible and most likely, you will find a community living nearby. Likewise, when you are not sure and you feel lost, get near the spiritual river bank. Start worshipping God even you don’t feel like. Start praying and commit to God again even when you feel God is far away. Start reading the bible so that you can find your direction again.

We all get lost at times in our spiritual journey with God but most importantly when you get lost, you must know what to do. Get close to the source which is Jesus! Don’t despair but always put your hope in God, He is MIGHTY TO SAVE!

As a TV-holic, I need a therapeutic dose of at least 20 minutes of TV every night. So it was the Monday night after the Chinese New Year week…

Channel 5 happened to be showing Oscars 2007. I am not really a fan of English movies (except Disney or Pixar cartoons… J). My goodness, Leonardo DiCaprio has gained so much weight since Titanic! Heh, that’s not my point.

I was about to switch channel when they were about to give away this special award called the Humanitarian Oscar to Sherry Lansing.

Sherry Lansing is the grande dame of female executives who led the famous Paramount Pictures Motion Pictures Group. There was a short clip that featured her life story, how she entered the film industry as an actress and finally decided to work behind the scenes instead.

But other than being a film maker, she is one that has been giving her time and energy passionately to her cause – cancer (stem cells) research and education.

During her speech, she acknowleged those purposed-driven ones who had been quietly working hard in their own ways for their individual callings, especially in the teaching and medical line.

The interesting thing about her is that she started off wanting to be an actress. She acted in a few movies and realised that acting was not her cup of tea. So she switched to working behind the stage.

Her speech struck me and I kinda teared. Maybe that’s because I belong to the 2 groups of people that she mentioned. The remarkable thing about her life is she was not invloved in both acting or in cancer drugs research, but she supported and funded these two areas with all she could. And because of her passion (which is “zeal with actions” -- as mentioned by Ps Gerald last year), many inspiring movies were made and new progress in the drug and medical industries were developed.

God indeed has the masterplan of our life in His Hands. Sherry Lansing could have felt disappointed when her dream of being an actress was not fulfiled but guess what, God has a greater plan for this humble, yet influential lady who had touched many lives.

So this goes especially to the A-Leavers who have just collected their results. I remembered few years back when I collected mine, I was strikened with mixed emotions. Relieved that finally the long wait was over, yet apprehensive about what my next step would be.

But know that no matter what happens, no matter how many As we get or where we go to after this, God is in control, and God has the best for us, nothing less. Sometimes it is just so hard to let this truth sink in especially when the tides turn against us (I think most of us, esp the leaders would have been through that). But this is a truth and promise that is given by God.

The bible has said it all. Let’s hold on to this truth!

“Many are the plans in man’s heart but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.” Proverbs 19:21

Potato Couch or Beaver?

What a question isn’t it? For those who do not know what the definition of these two is, allow me to help you understand.

A person who is called a Potato Couch is one who sits there who does nothing and just allow time to pass by.

A person who is called a Beaver is one who works hard for the family by finding and storing food.

God’s purpose for us is never to sit around and wait for things to happen. It is God’s heart for us to step out to reach out to people who needs a change or a new purpose in their lives. Matthew 28 speaks of the Great Commission declared by Jesus to his Disciples. He said, ‘GO!’. The word ‘GO!’ does not just refers to later on, see how, wait till I have a degree in bible studies. It simply means it’s time to get up and get out becoming a person of influence in our daily routine.

When we carry the Great Commission in our hearts, it will cause you to get excited to impact and change lives. It will cause you to become impatient in the godly sense to reach out even beyond the shores of Singapore! As our church is hosting 20 over nation in our conference, perhaps God has placed within you a country in your heart to reach out to. Or maybe God has given you compassion for certain group of people in our society? Whatever God placed within you, do not store but begin to nurture it and grow it to completion!

God’s Kingdom is never for those who laze around with no purpose but made up of people with GREAT COMISSION IN YOUR HEART! I would like to lead you in a prayer and read it aloud and speak with faith in your heart.

Dear Lord Jesus, I thanked you for the privileged and the honor to serve you. Lord, teach me to have the beaver’s mentality. I am willing to be a vessel to impact the nations. Reveal to me so that I can stand in the gap for the nation. Grant me a heart of compassion for the lost and be a history maker for your glory wherever I go! In Jesus name I pray, Amen!

Love you, PGC
